What Remains - What Remains

Lyrics > What Remains - What Remains

WHAT REMAINS…

WHAT REMAINS IS THE SUDDEN SHOCK…IN THE AFTERMATH OF LOVE
WHEN YOU SUDDENLY DISCOVER WHAT YOU MISS WAS IN YOUR GRASP
WHO WOULD KNOW THAT THE TRUTH WAS NEAR?
HOW, ON EARTH, COULD IT BE ANY CLEARER?
IS THE HEART SO BLIND IT MISSES OUT WHEN OVERWHELMED BY FEAR

BRIDGE
DISTANCE IS SO HARD TO EXPLAIN, IT’S LIKE AN OPEN FIELD
IT’S A PLACE WHERE THE EARTH JUST MEETS THE SKY FOR ALL TO SEE
DEEP WITHIN OUR SOULS…WE CRY OUT FOR SOMETHING MORE
I DON’T SPECULATE OR WORRY OF THE REASONS WHY___

WHAT REMAINS IS OUR HISTORY…AND THE CYCLES OF OUR DRAMA
HOW WE GOT TO THIS PLACE HAS NO BASIS IN REASON OR FATE
ARE WE THE VICTIMS OF DELUSION?
CAN WE WALK BY THE CONFUSION?
SOMETIMES BLIND FAITH ADHERES THE SHATTERED BOND AND BELIEF

INSTRUMENTAL BRIDGE

WHAT REMAINS IS OUR SENSE OF WONDER..FOR EACH FLEETING MOMENT
WHICH PASSES THROUGH EACH DAY WE LIVE…THE CREASES AND THE SCARS
DO WE SWIM IN THE SEA OF REALITY?
HAVE WE SURVIVED THE ERRORS OF OUR WAY?
DON’T FORGET THE SIMPLE THOUGHT…IT IS WHAT IS

BRIDGE

SO, WHAT REMAINS?

Eric Danton of the Hartford Courant on "What Remains" 10 August 2010

It's entirely possible that Steven Mednick is the most prolific musician on the local scene.  A lawyer by day, the New Haven singer and songwriter cranks out songs by night -- enough for seven releases since 2008, including his latest, "What Remains" (Cottage Sound Recordings) He has a lot to say, clearly, and he communicates in '60s folk-rock style, building songs around acoustic guitar and his voice, with adornment from electric guitars, keyboards and the occasional string arrangement and harmonica.
