What Remains - Hostages and Orphans

Lyrics > What Remains - Hostages and Orphans

HOSTAGES AND ORPHANS

I AM A HOSTAGE…I’VE BEEN LOCKED UP INSIDE
COULDN’T LEAVE BY MY FREE WILL OR INTENTION
I’VE BEEN SITTING HERE…IN FEAR OF LIVING
SPOOKED BY THE SPIRITS IN DESPARATE ISOLATION

(HE SAID) YOU HAVE NO CHOICE…BUT TO STAY WITH ME
ALL THE OTHERS WILL LOCK YOU AWAY
THEY DON’T LOVE YOU I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO’S REAL
I ALONE DESERVE THE TREASURES OF HEAVEN

I’VE BEEN FORGOTTEN…MALIGNED AND MISCONSTRUED
NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHAT I HAVE BEEN DREAMING
I’VE BEEN LOOTED…MY HEART’S BEEN PIERCED AND DRAINED
BY THOSE WHO BELIEVE THAT RICHES ARE THE ONLY END

(HE SAID) YOU HAVE NO CHOICE…BUT TO STAY WITH ME
ALL THE OTHERS WILL LOCK YOU AWAY
THEY DON’T LOVE YOU I’M THE ONLY ONE WHO’S REAL
I ALONE DESERVE THE TREASURES OF HEAVEN

I AM AN ORPHAN…I’VE BEEN LEFT BEHIND
AFTER ALL THE YEARS OF LOVE AND DEVOTION
TAKEN FROM ME…MY SOUL’S BEEN EMPTIED
BY A FOOL AND THE DAUGHTERS OF THE DARKNESS

Eric Danton of the Hartford Courant on "What Remains" 10 August 2010

It's entirely possible that Steven Mednick is the most prolific musician on the local scene.  A lawyer by day, the New Haven singer and songwriter cranks out songs by night -- enough for seven releases since 2008, including his latest, "What Remains" (Cottage Sound Recordings) He has a lot to say, clearly, and he communicates in '60s folk-rock style, building songs around acoustic guitar and his voice, with adornment from electric guitars, keyboards and the occasional string arrangement and harmonica.
